Memphis suspends Jae'Lon Oglesby, Kam Prewitt amid investigation

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis Tigers coach Mike Norvell has suspended receiver Jae'Lon Oglesby and cornerback Kam Prewitt indefinitely while police investigate an incident that left Oglesby's car riddled with bullet holes.

Norvell issued the statement on Wednesday, noting that the Tuesday night incident is being investigated by police and the university also is reviewing an undisclosed incident under the student code of conduct.

Norvell said he consulted with athletic director Tom Bowen in suspending the players from the Tigers (5-2). Norvell will not comment further with the situation under investigation.

The Commercial Appeal cited a police report on Wednesday that Oglesby, a sophomore from Central, South Carolina, told officers he heard shots outside his off-campus apartment on Tuesday night and found bullet holes in his car. Oglesby told police he fought with Prewitt earlier Tuesday.

According to The Commercial Appeal's report, a bullet entered a nearby apartment, and police found five shell casings in the grass outside Oglesby's apartment. Someone was also heard running after the shooting, The Commercial Appeal said, citing the police report.

Prewitt, from Pinson, Alabama, also was suspended during fall camp.
