Source: Georgia back Nick Chubb ruled out vs. Tennessee

College Football, Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia tailback Nick Chubb will not play Saturday against Tennessee because of an ankle injury, a source confirmed to ESPN.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported Chubb would not play against the Vols.

"I don't think he's going to play," Henry Chubb, Nick's father, told the newspaper. "He's got that high ankle sprain. He twisted it trying to make a cut against Ole Miss. He's in good spirits and all. He understands it. The doctor said he'd need a couple weeks, so he'll probably play next week."

However, Georgia coach Kirby Smart said during a Friday afternoon appearance on "The Paul Finebaum Show" that he wouldn't rule out Chubb facing the Vols.

"Nick Chubb remains to be a game-time decision," Smart said. "Nick has improved in the last probably 48 hours immensely. We're going to go out tomorrow and warm up and see how he does. If the medical staff clears him, then he's going to play. That's where we are with it."

Chubb aggravated the injury to his left ankle at Ole Miss last week. He had initially suffered the injury the previous week, a source said.
