Purdue's Martesse Patterson arrested after allegedly punching former teammate

College Football, Purdue Boilermakers

Purdue left tackle Martesse Patterson was arrested and charged with felony battery Wednesday after allegedly punching a former teammate.

A no-contact order was also issued against Patterson. He stands accused of punching Alex Hilger and breaking his jaw on Sept. 7, according to the Lafayette (Ind.) Journal & Courier. Hilger is a former Purdue walk-on who appeared in 12 games last year on special teams.

Patterson, a 6-foot-3, 340-pound redshirt sophomore, started the Boilermakers' first two games at left tackle but did not play in last week's 24-14 win over Nevada. Purdue coach Darrell Hazell said at his press conference on Tuesday that he expected Patterson to play again this season, but school officials said Hazell would allow the legal process to develop before updating his status with the team.

Purdue (2-1) plays at Maryland (3-0) on Saturday.
