Jordan Goldwire rockets from unsung to elite with Duke nod

Senior point guard recruit Jordan Goldwire has committed to the Duke Blue Devils, much to his own surprise.

"This is crazy," Goldwire told ESPN moments after committing while on a visit to Duke on Monday. "Something I never expected."

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound from Norcross High (Georgia) averaged 12 points and seven assists per game the past season but said he didn't know he was on Duke's radar.

"I was going to commit to Eastern Kentucky, but Duke showed interest recently, and it was something I couldn't pass up," said Goldwire, who took official visits to both Eastern Kentucky and Mercer.

The Blue Devils have an uncertain point guard situation. Freshman Frank Jackson isn't a true point, and he recently declared for the NBA draft but could still return because he hasn't signed with an agent.

Duke is also in the mix for the top uncommitted senior point guard: Trevon Duval.

"They didn't promise me anything," Goldwire said of Duke. "They said they needed another ball handler who would be able to run the second group. It's a great opportunity for me."
