Spartans F Gavin Schilling will require surgery for right knee

Men's College Basketball, Michigan State Spartans

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State's basketball roster has taken another hit.

The school announced Wednesday that forward Gavin Schilling hurt his right knee last week in practice and will need surgery. He is out indefinitely.

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said Schilling had been practicing "very well," after an "incredible summer," going into his senior season. He averaged 3.8 points and 3.1 rebounds in 24 games last season after recovering from a toe injury.

Spartans forward Ben Carter, a graduate transfer from UNLV, had left knee surgery last week and will be sidelined indefinitely.

Izzo will be counting on perhaps his best recruiting class to make up for the loss of the two injured players, four who went on to play in the NBA and two transfers.
