| | Bennett has a 453-258 career coaching record. | Dick Bennett spent his entire collegiate coaching career in the University of Wisconsin system, coaching at UW-Stevens Point and UW-Green Bay before moving on to Madison.
His best moments came at Madison, leading the team to a school-record 22 wins in each of the last two seasons and reaching the 2000 Final Four. Bennett's Badger teams also won 24 games against top-25 opponents during his tenure in Madison, and led the Big Ten in scoring defense each of the past four seasons.
Overall, Bennet's teams have won 20 games in 11 different seasons, made six NCAA Tournament appearances and been to the post-season 12 times. Bennett also coached Stevens Point to a runner-up finish in the 1984 NAIA tournament.
In addition to the success of his teams Bennett has also received numerous individual awards. He was a finalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year award in 1999, was the NAIA Coach of the Year in 1984, and was the Coach of the Year in the Mid-Continent Conference in both 1990 and 1992.
