KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Undefeated Austin Peay may have
its best start in 14 years temporarily derailed tonight as it
faces No. 7 Tennessee at Thompson-Boling Arena. Austin Peay (4-0) has won its first four games for the first time since the 1985-86 season. But tonight, the Governors will be facing a Tennessee team that they have not beaten in six tries, including a 74-65 setback in the last meeting on November 23, 1997. The Governers are coming off a 79-76 victory over Indiana-Purdue on Saturday, getting double figures from four of their five starters. Trenton Hassell led the way with 19 points on 6-of-17 shooting. The Ohio Valley Conference's preseason co-Player of the Year, Hassell leads Austin Peay with a 23.3 scoring average. Tennessee (3-0) withstood its first challenge of the season on Tuesday with a 66-56 victory over nationally ranked Wisconsin. Tony Harris hit six 3-pointers and scored 22 points to lead the Volunteers. Tennessee has won 31 straight non-conference home games, including victories over Chattanooga and East Tennessee State to start the season. Harris is pacing the team with 16.3 points and 4.7 assists. Forward Isiah Victor is also off to a strong start by averaging 12.3 points and 9.3 rebounds through the first three games.
