Cavs guard Shumpert arrested on DUI suspicion

CLEVELAND -- The Cavaliers say guard Iman Shumpert was arrested last month on suspicion for driving under the influence.

Shumpert was arrested on Aug. 10 in Fayette County, Georgia, following a traffic stop for a lane violation. The NBA champion Cavs said it has discussed the situation with Shumpert and "will monitor the progression of the pending case."

An incident report obtained by Cleveland.com says a deputy smelled an odor consistent with burned marijuana in Shumpert's vehicle, and the player admitted to smoking. The report says Shumpert struggled with a field sobriety test and declined a blood test.

No court date has been set. The team declined further comment.

Shumpert has spent two seasons with the Cavs, who acquired him in a 2015 trade with the New York Knicks. He averaged 5.8 points in 54 games last season and appeared in 21 postseason games for the Cavs.

Shumpert and his fiancee, singer Teyana Taylor, recently appeared in a music video by rapper Kanye West.
