Cavs guard Iman Shumpert out for final 2 games

NBA, Cleveland Cavaliers

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- Iman Shumpert will miss the Cleveland Cavaliers' final two regular-season games this week after getting his left knee drained over the weekend, the team said Monday.

Shumpert, who sat out the Cavs' 105-102 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Saturday with inflammation and soreness in his knee, is averaging 5.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists while shooting a career-low 37.4 percent from the field. He missed the first 21 games of the season with a right wrist injury.

The Cavs say Shumpert is expected to be available for practice later in the week as the team prepares for the playoffs.

Cavs guard Mo Williams will also miss Monday's game against the Atlanta Hawks as he travels to Florida to visit Dr. James Andrews to have his left knee evaluated.

Williams left the Cavs' road trip last week to return to Cleveland for an MRI on his knee, which confirmed the chondromalacia -- irritation of the cartilage under the kneecap -- diagnosis he received earlier in the season. It will be Williams' third consultation with Dr. Andrews this season. A previous trip resulted in a platelet-rich plasma injection in the knee for Williams.

Williams, who averaged 14.5 points on 49.1 percent shooting and 4.6 assists in 14 starts filling in at point guard for the injured Kyrie Irving at the beginning of the season, has had a limited role lately.

Since returning from a monthlong rehabilitation because of his knee, Williams averaged 4.5 points on 41.7 percent shooting overall (58.3 percent from 3) in 9.3 minutes in his last six games.

The Cavs also announced a pair of minor roster moves Monday, as both center Sasha Kaun and guard Jordan McRae were assigned to the Canton Charge, Cleveland's D-League affiliate. Canton hosts Sioux Falls in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals of the D-League playoffs on Monday.
