How the Warriors wooed Steve Kerr

Roster Reload: Golden State Warriors

Shocking almost everyone tracking the process, Steve Kerr agreed to terms with the Golden State Warriors to become their next coach, in effect spurning his mentor Phil Jackson and leaving the New York Knicks at the altar.

The courtship of Kerr by Jackson was long and public, but ultimately left the Knicks in an awkward situation. Where does everyone go from here? Let's take a look:

Why did Golden State choose Kerr?

The relationship between Warriors managing partner Joe Lacob and Kerr has been well publicized, and after the frigid dealings between ownership/management and Golden State's former coach, Mark Jackson, it makes sense that they'd seek someone they felt would be on the same page from Day 1. Kerr brings instant credibility as a five-time NBA champion, and his close relationships with two of the best coaches in the history of the game, Phil Jackson and San Antonio's Gregg Popovich, also add to his pedigree.
