Wrist injury lands Braves Tyler Flowers on DL

The Atlanta Braves have placed catcher Tyler Flowers on the 10-day disabled list with a left wrist contusion.

The Braves announced the roster move before the opener of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies. Flowers suffered the injury during Monday's game against the Phillies when he was hit by a foul tip, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

A CT scan on Flowers' wrist was negative, according to the Journal-Constitution, but the Braves want their own doctors in Atlanta to examine him.

The Braves promoted catcher David Freitas from Triple-A Gwinnett to replace Flowers on the active roster. Freitas, 28, will make his major league debut later Wednesday in the second game of Atlanta's doubleheader in Philadelphia.

Flowers, 31, is batting .279 with 11 home runs and 43 RBIs this season.
