The Boston Red Sox plan to meet with David Price on Thursday to determine the next step for the rehabbing left-hander after he allowed six runs (three earned) in 3⅔ innings for Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday night.
Speaking after Boston's 9-4 loss to the Texas Rangers, Farrell said a scout liked what he saw from Price physically Wednesday but the next step for him is undetermined.
"We have to sit with him and talk about what's best for him, what's best for us, going forward," Farrell said.
Making his second rehab start as he recovers from an elbow injury, Price threw 89 pitches against Louisville before being lifted with two outs in the fourth inning. He retired the final four batters he faced.
Price's complete line: six runs (three earned) on seven hits over 3.2 innings, with four strikeouts and one walk.
Pawtucket officials said Price departed the stadium without speaking to the media.
The Red Sox previously said that Wednesday's start would be Price's last before rejoining the major league team.
In his first rehab start Friday for Pawtucket, Price allowed three runs on five hits in just two innings, while striking out four and walking one Buffalo Bisons batter. He allowed a solo home run and a two-run double in the second inning.
The 31-year-old Price, who went 17-9 with a 3.99 ERA in 2016 and led the American League with 35 starts and 230 innings, is in the second season of a $217 million, seven-year contract.
