RF Carlos Gonzalez suffers bruised right hand on HBP; X-rays negative

Colorado Rockies right fielder Carlos Gonzalez was removed from Wednesday night's game in the fourth inning with a bruised right hand after being hit by a fastball from Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw.

Gonzalez, who was charged with a strike as he tried to check his swing, dropped to the ground in obvious pain. He was examined by team trainers and replaced by pinch hitter Stephen Cardullo, who grounded out to third.

Preliminary X-rays on the hand were negative. He was wearing a wrap on his pinkie finger.

"It hit me. They called it a swing but it was miscall by the umpire,'' Gonzalez said. "It's just a bruise. It's nothing bad. I expect to be out there on Friday helping my team.''

Gonzalez, 31, is hitting just .175 with one home run and two RBIs this season.

The Dodgers beat the Rockies 4-2.
