Tigers sign IF Infante, 13 others to minor league contracts

MLB, Detroit Tigers

Infielder Omar Infante is one of 14 players who agreed to terms with the Detroit Tigers on minor league contracts for 2017, the club announced Friday.

Infante's contract includes an invitation to major league camp.

Infante, 34, was signed by the Tigers as an amateur free agent in 1999. He made his major league debut with Detroit in 2002, and was with the club until 2007. Infante returned to Detroit in 2012 after stints with the Atlanta Braves and Florida/Miami Marlins.

In eight total seasons with Detroit, Infante slashed .266/.305/.399 with 46 home runs, 46 stolen bases, 225 RBIs and 273 runs scored.

Infante signed a free-agent deal with the Kansas City Royals prior to the 2014 season. He was released by the Royals in June, signed a minor league deal with the Braves and was later released by Atlanta in August.

The 13 other players whom the Tigers agreed to terms with are:

  • Right-handers Ruben Alaniz, Johan Belisario, Endrys Briceño, William Cuevas, Jeff Ferrell, Santiago Garrido, Logan Kensing, Arcenio Leon, Dustin Molleken and Cory Riordan
