Reds' Joey Votto out after cutting chin during slide into second

ST. LOUIS -- Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto left Thursday night's 4-3 loss at St. Louis in the eighth inning after suffering a cut on his chin while sliding into second base.

Votto, who went 3-for-4 in the game, had blood gushing from the cut. He was replaced by pinch runner Tyler Holt.

Votto recorded his 1,400th career hit earlier in the game.
