Zack Greinke MRI reveals only swelling, Chip Hale says

MLB, Arizona Diamondbacks

Arizona Diamondbacks ace Zack Greinke had an MRI on his shoulder Friday, but there was no evidence of structural damage. However, manager Chip Hale said the right-hander is unlikely to pitch again in 2016.

"I think if he doesn't start Tuesday, there's probably a good chance he doesn't start again," Hale said Saturday.

Greinke had been questionable to make his final two starts of the season after experiencing shoulder stiffness Wednesday. While the Diamondbacks traveled to Baltimore for a three-game series with the Orioles, Greinke returned to Arizona to undergo the MRI.

Greinke missed more than a month before returning Aug. 3 because of tightness in his left oblique, an injury he suffered while batting in late June.

Greinke is 13-7 with a 4.37 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in his first season with the Diamondbacks after signing a six-year, $206.5 million contract in the offseason.
