LEADING OFF: Sale goes for 15th win, Leake on a streak

A look at what's happening all around the majors Saturday:

SALE'S PITCH

Chris Sale goes for his major league-leading 15th win when the White Sox host Detroit. The AL All-Star starter, Sale (14-3, 3.18 ERA) Sale pitched one-hit ball over eight scoreless innings against Seattle in his previous start.

NO LEAKE HERE

Mike Leake has struck out at least 10 and walked none in each of his last two starts for St. Louis joining Bob Gibson as the Cardinals to accomplish the feat in consecutive games. Leake will try to extend his streak when he faces the Dodgers at Busch Stadium.

TOUGH TWIRLERS

Beaten by Baltimore ace Chris Tillman on Thursday, the Yankees went into a weekend set vs. the Giants set to face Madison Bumgarner, Jeff Samardzija and Johnny Cueto. Tillman and those San Francisco stars had combined for a 46-14 record going into the series.

VIVA VOTTO

Reds first baseman Joey Votto tries to extend his torrid streak since the All-Star Game. His three-run homer in the first inning on Friday night against Arizona gave him a seven-game hitting streak since the break. It was his third homer during that span.

MAINTAINING CONTROL

Cleveland right-hander Josh Tomlin (10-2, 3.34 ERA) faces Baltimore at Camden Yards in a matchup of AL playoff contenders. Tomlin can attribute his success in part to throwing strikes -- he ranks second in the majors (behind Clayton Kershaw) with an average of one walk per nine innings. He's also 6-0 in nine road starts. Kevin Gausman (1-7, 4.05) will start for the Orioles, who own the best home record in the big leagues.

NEAT MATCHUP

Marlins All-Star Jose Fernandez (11-4, 2.53) is scheduled to start at home against Mets righty Jacob deGrom (6-4, 2.38), who pitched a one-hit shutout against the Phillies in his most recent outing.

"If you're a baseball fan and you love the game, Saturday night's game is a game you'd want to come and see," Mets manager Terry Collins said.
