MLB, Texas Rangers

SAN DIEGO -- Cole Hamels of the Texas Rangers pitched a scoreless third inning in Tuesday's All-Star Game in his hometown several hours after receiving eight stitches in his chin.

Fox Sports reported that Hamels needed the stitches after tripping coming out of the bathroom in his hotel room at 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Hamels struck out Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs with runners on second and third to end the third.

Asked about Hamels' mishap, AL manager Ned Yost of the Kansas City Royals said: "I saw he had a Band-Aid on, and I didn't know what happened."

Hamels pitched at San Diego's Rancho Bernardo High.

The American League went on to win 4-2 to ensure home field advantage for the World Series.
