Reports: Padres sign Edwin Jackson to minor league deal

SAN DIEGO -- The Padres have signed right-hander Edwin Jackson to a minor league contract, according to multiple reports.

Jackson, 37, was released by the Miami Marlins on June 4 after allowing seven runs, 13 hits and six walks in 10 2/3 innings.

It's not clear how Jackson, a former starter, would be used if acquired by the Padres.

Four Padres starters -- Tyson Ross, Andrew Cashner, Robbie Erlin and Cesar Vargas -- are on the disabled list. James Shields was traded to the Chicago White Sox.
