FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -- Henrik Stenson was forced to withdraw from The Barclays on Thursday due to a knee injury.
"My right knee, which required surgery in December, has flared up again," he said in a statement. "Regrettably, I need to withdraw this week to allow time for an MRI and see what the next step is."
Stenson's withdrawal came after an opening-round 3-over 74 in the first of four FedEx Cup playoff events.
Earlier this summer, he also cited a knee injury when withdrawing from the U.S. Open. One week later, he won the BMW International Open, then claimed the Open Championship a few weeks after that.
Stenson won the 2013 FedEx Cup title, taking both the Tour Championship and Deutsche Bank Championship that year.
