29. Alcindor bids adieu
What's the cherry on top of scoring 39 points and 20 rebounds in your final college game, of winning your third straight national title, of being named the NCAA Final Four MVP for the third straight season? How about having your dad make music while you do it? Lew Alcindor's father, Ferdinand, played the trombone in UCLA's band as the Bruins beat Purdue 92-72 in the 1969 title game, capping another memorable season and Alcindor's fantastic career. Alcindor averaged 24.0 points and 14.7 rebounds his final season. Even more jaw-dropping: The Bruins were 80-2 during his career.
