Game Changers

With less than 100 days left until the start of the London Olympics, ESPN.com will profile eight athletes who may not be household names, but are still solid medal contenders. First up: U.S. marathoner Desi Davila.

So slight she seems to disappear inside a baggy sweatshirt, Davila shows how deceiving appearances can be. After a largely anonymous high school and college career, she migrated to Michigan to join the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project in 2005. The elite training environment helped her transform herself into "a contender."

Now, Davila will line up at the Olympic marathon start as a marked woman and a bona fide medal candidate. Bonnie D. Ford » Desi in motion Video
