MLB Playoffs - Postseason Classics

Oct. 5, 1996 -- Cardinals 7, Padres 5: Rooting for the Padres has come with disappointment along with those old brown and yellow uniforms. Exhibit A: Playing in just their second postseason, San Diego lost the first two games before a Game 3 so tense that the Swingin' Friar lost the few remaining strands of hair on his head. A lead was taken or surrendered six times and everyone from Tony Gwynn and Rickey Henderson to Fernando Valenzuela and Dennis Eckersley got into the game. The final blow was when Brian Jordan took closer Trevor Hoffman deep in the ninth inning. The palm trees sagged at Jack Murphy Stadium.
