University of Michigan uses a solar water heater to pre-heat steam-powered water heaters, reducing the energy needed to raise the water temperature. In 2010, the solar system produced 110 million BTUs of energy. This system was the first of its kind in the U.S.
Overall, this 100% natural gas power plant provides almost 50% of the campus energy needs.
