Inside Gary Andersen's Office - View 2

A perfectly creased American flag inside a triangular wooden case with dog tags hanging over it rests on a shelf in Andersen's office. The flag draped the casket of Andersen's father, Phil, who died of a heart attack in 2002.

Phil Andersen was an infantryman in World War II.

"My dad was always my guy," Andersen says. "He gave me a lot of opportunities. He was special to me. He means everything to me. [The flag] was the one thing I asked my mom for when he died. I didn't want anything else.

"I've always had it in my office with me and it always reminds me of my dad."

"Andersen was a Utah assistant under Urban Meyer at the time of his father's death. He received a Utes football signed by the entire team, which he displays next to the flag.
