President Obama wasn't the only one who was pleased that Michael Sam had been drafted by the Rams. Jason Collins, the first openly gay active player in the NBA, said he was looking forward to watching Sam's progress through his career. And LeBron James was happy for him.
Sam's former coach at Missouri, Gary Pinkel, was glad as well.
"I think it's a great statement for the Rams' organization and this is really a lot bigger than football," Pinkel told Yahoo! Sports. "It's amazing how sport can have an influence on society and, hopefully, three or four or five years from now that there's not going to be any discussion about this."
