Jockey Rajiv Maragh was released from North Shore Hospital July 13 and is resting at home near Hempstead, N.Y., after sustaining several injuries in a July 10 fall at Belmont Park.
According to his agent, Tony Micallef, the native of Jamaica left the hospital around 8:00 p.m. ET the evening of July 13. He has several fractured vertebrae in his back, a broken rib, and a small lung puncture. Maragh kept fans updated throughout his stay at North Shore via his Twitter account, @RajivMaragh.
"I don't know how much time he's going to be out; I do know there's no surgery, but he's got fractures and everything else he tweeted -- all that's true," Micallef said. "They had him up walking a little bit before he left the hospital. I don't know about the timeframe [of when he could return to riding], but I do know he's got to rest and heal and he's going to be at home on his back a lot."
Maragh, 30, was injured during the fifth race on Belmont's July 10 card when Mini Muffin, ridden by Ruben Silvera, veered into the path of Yourcreditisgood, with Maragh aboard. Yourcreditisgood clipped the heels of Mini Muffin and fell hard, unseating Maragh. Yourcreditisgood ran off and was eventually caught by an outrider.
Mini Muffin finished fifth in the 6-1/2-furlong maiden claiming race, but was disqualified and unplaced as a result of the incident.
