Brazil 3, Chile 0

Brazil scored three goals in a match for the 37th time at the World Cup and kept a clean sheet for the 42nd time as it advanced to the quarterfinals for the fifth straight World Cup. Brazil improved on a few eye-popping World Cup records, moving to 53-2-4 when scoring first, 35-0-2 when leading at halftime and 46-0-0 when taking a two-goal lead in a World Cup match. Brazil has played 96 World Cup matches and has had a two-goal lead in 48 percent of those matches.

• Brazil's passing accuracy of 76.9 percent was its lowest in a match in which it scored three goals since the stat was first tracked in 1966 and its third lowest in a win. The only lower percentages came in the semifinals of the 2002 World Cup against Turkey (73.1 percent) and in the 2002 World Cup final against Germany (72.4 percent).

• Chile completed 82.0 percent of its passes, 5.1 percent more than Brazil. Chile became just the 12th team to have a higher passing accuracy than Brazil in a World Cup match since 1966. However, Brazil has lost only one match in which it had a lower passing accuracy than an opponent, improving to 8-1-3 with Monday's win.

• The goals from Juan (35th minute) and Fabian (38th) were the quickest goals by Brazil since 2002, when the Seleção defeated Costa Rica 5-2. Brazil got two goals from Ronaldo within four minutes (10th and 13th minutes) and goals from Rivaldo (62nd) and Junior (64th) within three minutes in that match.
