• Will Herculez Gomez return to MLS?

Herculez Gomez has the chance today to do what few Americans have before when his club, Santos Laguna, meets fellow Liga MX power Monterrey for a spot in December's FIFA Club World Cup.

The veteran national team forward is already one of just two Yanks to have played in that competition, alongside U.S. teammate Jose Torres with Pachuca in 2010.

But if MLS commissioner Don Garber gets his way, Gomez won't be participating in the tournament this winter regardless of tonight's outcome. That's because Garber is one of the many people who are hoping Gomez will be back playing in his home country's domestic league before the summer is finished.

It's not as if Gomez has been shy about talking up his desire to return home, and MLS clubs Seattle Sounders and Toronto FC are reportedly interested. In a Twitter chat with fans last week, Garber responded to a question from Gomez about his MLS rights being owned by Sporting Kansas City, the team he left after the 2009 season, by saying, "We would love to have you back."

No wonder.
