Over the weekend, EA Sports continued to release the cover candidates for the 64-player "Madden NFL 13" fan vote. With the teammate versus teammate play-in round kicking off March 7, here the nominees from the NFC and AFC South:

AFC SOUTH
  • Houston Texans: Arian Foster versus Andre Johnson
  • Indianapolis Colts: Dwight Freeney versus Robert Mathis
  • Jacksonville Jaguars: Maurice Jones-Drew versus Blaine Gabbert
  • Tennessee Titans: Chris Johnson versus Jake Locker NFC SOUTH
  • Atlanta Falcons: Matt Ryan versus Julio Jones
  • Carolina Panthers: Steve Smith versus Cam Newton
  • New Orleans Saints: Drew Brees versus Jimmy Graham
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Josh Freeman versus LeGarrette Blount

There are some great battles in this group, most notably Arian Foster versus Andre Johnson in a battle of the beasts, and Drew Brees versus Jimmy Graham in a vote between the established star/former "Madden" cover athlete and one of the most exciting young superstars in the league.

Personally, I'd like to see Arian Foster and Maurice Jones-Drew play for the cover. Instead of a fan vote, what if the fans decided the final four, and then they had a Madden Bowl-type event where the best gamer of the group actually won his spot on the cover? Talk about taking the competition up a notch.

Then again, with Foster and Drew being two of the best gamers in the NFL, it might not be fair to anyone else as they might just need to end up changing the name of the game to MJD Football for as long as Jones-Drew is in the league (believe me, he's that good).
