Winter officially starts in one month. But the season has already showed some early signs. This is a time where people who have certain lifestyles start to make changes. Some put the surfboard away. Others just pull out more rubber. And some just head for the hills. But for Jamie Sterling, it means shifting his attention from the South Pacific to the North Pacific.

"I live my life chasing an endless winter. The North Pacific season is when I'm at home. I usually catch the biggest waves during the North Pacific season. The South Pacific season is my time to travel and live out of a bag for five months. I usually get my best barrels at places like Mexico, Fiji, and Tahiti during the South Pacific season," says Sterling, the Big Wave World Champ.

2012 has already seen Jaws light up and some solid days on the North Shore.

"The best indicator is the ocean. So far this winter, it's been really good in Hawaii. We had a great early season of waves. It looks to be a glorious winter at home on the North Shore of O'ahu."
