ST. ANDREWS, Scotland -- This is a public service announcement, directed at those lucky few who happen to be in St. Andrews this week -- especially my fellow Southerners.
I have found the bourbon.
Bourbon drinkers know how important this is, especially in the land of Scotch. I've got a nose for these things. I know Harry's New York Bar has a good selection in Paris. A few miles away, Le Select, in Montmartre, has Maker's Mark and stays open all night. There's a hotel in Lyon with Pappy Van Winkle -- the Bobby Jones of bourbons. In Vegas, Mario Batali's place in the Venetian has the Van Winkle.
So, last night, I walked into a bar on South Street called The Criterion.
I scanned the space behind the bar and saw it, over to the left: a bottle of Woodford Reserve.
I'll see you there.
