Coming off a 2-10 record, you wouldn't expect Maryland to be one of the teams off to a good start for the 2011 class, but the Terps have put together a nice core of eight verbal commitments so far this recruiting cycle. On Thursday, the Terps picked up a verbal from receiver Nigel King (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield). "I really felt at home," King told ESPN affiliate InsideMdSports.com. "I like the coaches, toured the campus, liked the facilities and I know I will get a great education there."King attempted to commit to LSU very early in the process, but the Tigers weren't ready to take it. King had offers from Colorado, East Carolina, Louisville, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina and West Virginia. Maryland also has dipped into South Florida for linebacker Shaun Ward (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla./Boyd Anderson) and defensive back Allen Ramsey (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Dillard). The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Ward is an absolute steal who has the potential to develop into a multi-year starter and Ramsey comes from one of the top programs in Broward County. The Terps also have three linemen, a fullback and another North Carolina receiver, Marcus Leak (Monroe, N.C./Parkwood), committed. If Maryland keeps up this pace, it will sign a nice class and it will go a long way toward rebuilding the program back to contender status in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
