INDIANAPOLIS -- David Kenney III's statisitcs are up, but his Pike (Indianapolis) team is just 1-5, making for a tough year for the junior defensive end.It is Kenney's first year at Pike after spending his first two years at Cathedral (Indianapolis), the winningest program in Indiana history."A little bit, just seeing the record over there," Kenney said when asked if the losing has taken a toll on him. "Going to (the state championship) last year, it's hard."Overall, the transition at Pike has gone well for him, he said. He's starting to get a feel for the playbook and coaches and has been a force as a rusher on the defensive line."David's extremely quick," Pike coach Derek Moyers said. "Sometimes it's like he knows the count better than the offense."He has very good football athleticism. He's strong enough to bull rush."Four schools are already putting the full-court pressure on Kenney. He said Boston College, Illinois, Iowa and Penn State have been sending him the most mail with Michigan also in the mix. On Saturday, he will travel to Illinois for its game against Northwestern.Iowa is the only campus Kenney has seen, though he has been to camps at other schools. Kenney said he likes Iowa because "it's not a big school but it's real concerned about football."Notre Dame has yet to get in contact with Kenney, but the coaching staff did award him the Most Valuable Player award among defensive lineman from the Fighting Irish's camp."I like Notre Dame because it's a lot like Cathedral," Kenney said.Kenney is interested in Illinois and Penn State because his dad, an assistant with Pike now but a former defensive line coach at Butler, has spent some time with Keith Gilmore and Larry Johnson Sr., Illinois' and Penn State's defensive line coaches.
