Talk football with
Cam Burrows for 30 minutes and it's clear he will make a great forensic scientist. He has an eye for detail and a great memory. In a Sept. 16 game against rival Wayne (Huber Heights, Ohio), the Trotwood-Madison cornerback and ESPNU 150 Watch List member used both to pick off one of the few passes he saw that night."We were in Cover 3 in that play and the quarterback started running," Burrows said. . "I remember from last year with [current Ohio State starting quarterback] Braxton Miller and he was running around and the corner would come and tackle him -- or think he would -- and he'd just stop and throw it over the head."So I was thinking 'Don't lose this [receiver] right here. So when he threw it I went and got it at its highest point."It's said you want a cornerback with a short memory so as to get over the mistakes quickly, too, but it's good to have a memory that can help make a pick. One of the top junior defensive backs in the Midwest, eleven schools have offered Burrows, all BCS members, too. Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Stanford and Tennessee are among those that have offered.Stanford offered him last Friday, and it was one of the more meaningful offers he received. If football doesn't work out for Burrows, he wants to get his degree in business or forensic science."Like the show CSI," Burrows said.Stanford trails for Burrows, though, who has the in-state Buckeyes in the lead at this early juncture."I grew up an Ohio State fan," Burrows says. "When I went to their camp freshman year, they were showing me a lot of love. I got to meet [former] coach [Jim] Tressel my freshman year."I remember at the Nike camp they had at Ohio State one of the coaches came to locker room and said he thinks someone wants to talk to me. I called my [high school] coach and told him and he came in there with me and they sat me down for a little while. That's when they took me to Coach Tressel's office. And he said 'The coaching staff told me I can't let you walk off this campus without getting an offer.'"Burrows attended the Miami and Michigan games at Ohio Stadium last year and was on hand for the season opener against Akron on Sept. 3.Burrows is still hoping to land some more offers from SEC schools and was wearing an Alabama hat following the win against Wayne."I haven't talked to them in a while," Burrows says of Alabama. "I talked to them right before the season started. I went down this summer and did their camp and talked with their coaches and talked with Nick Saban."Florida and LSU were two other schools Burrows is interested in and is hoping to make the trip to Baton Rouge when the two teams square off Oct. 8.
