WEST ALIQUIPPA, Pa. -- Hopewell quarterback
Nolan Harmotto is still waiting on his first Football Bowl Subdivision offer, but if he happens to pick one up in two weeks before heading to Tobacco Road, he knows he'll be in good hands.Harmotto plans to visit Duke in early October, where he'll have a chance to sit down and talk with Blue Devils coach David Cutcliffe."I've been in contact with them, and they run my style of offense," Harmotto said. "They have a great coach who coached both the Manning brothers, and from what I heard, he's a really good coach."They've struggled obviously, but they're a program on the rise. Plus they're a great academic school, too."Harmotto will be sending out his senior tape soon and Duke, Akron, Ohio and Temple will all receive a copy, as well as Lafayette, Lehigh, Bucknell and Dayton. Ivy League schools have also been in contact with Harmotto, but he's hoping to earn a scholarship, which the Ivy League does not offer. At 6-foot-3 and just under 200 pounds, Harmotto doesn't look like teammate and ESPNU 150 back
Rushel Shell with the ball in his hands, but he is an effective runner."In a situation you need a first down he'll get it for you, he'll make a play," Hopewell coach Dave Vestal said is Harmotto's best attribute. "He's a heck of a runner, and runs the option extremely well."Vestal also praised Hamotto's leadership qualities, even though he isn't your stereotypical vocal leader."When he speaks, he doesn't speak loudly but everyone listens; he's kind of like Paul," said Vestal, who was referring to NFL linebacker and 2003 Hopewell graduate Paul Posluszny. "When Paul used to speak, it wasn't any kind of rah-rah speech, but guys listened."
