Five things to watch this weekend: Shell running for a record
After rushing for 366 yards last week, 132 doesn't seem so hard, right? On Friday, Hopewell (Aliquippa, Pa.) running back Rushel Shell, No. 83 in the ESPNU 150 and third among running backs, is looking to break the WPIAL rushing record of 7,646 yards set in 1999 by Fort Cherry's Mike Vernillo. The yards might not come easy for Shell, though, who is going against Mt. Lebanon, which is in a higher classification than Hopewell. Arthur Goldberg, Lebanon's 6-foot-4, 270-pound defensive tackle and a Wisconsin commit, is tough to move on the inside and could force Shell to wait one more week before breaking the record. What will Fuller and Keir do for an encore?
Roman Catholic (Philadelphia) wide receiver Will Fuller and quarterback Mike Keir both broke records last week; Fuller set the entire city's record for single-game receiving yardage, and Keir broke the school record for passing yards.Fuller caught 10 passes for 276 yards, and Keir tossed for 332 yards. They will face a tougher test against Cardinal O'Hara (Philadelphia), which has top junior linebacker Brandon Chatmon patrolling the defense.Fuller and Keir are only juniors, though, and are still building chemistry. Few would be shocked if they each broke their own records before the end of the season.Notre Dame and Pitt battling for recruits
Notre Dame and Pitt are hardly natural rivals, and possibly each school's recruiting philosophy will change with expansion around the corner, but for now, the winner of the Irish-Nittany Lions game could get the upper hand with recruits.Four-star running back William Mahone from Austintown-Fitch (Youngstown, Ohio) is down to Pitt, Notre Dame and Michigan State, and this could be Pitt's last chance to impress Mahone. Both schools also go into Ohio and New Jersey often, though Notre Dame not as much since former coach Charlie Weis was fired a few seasons ago. Notre Dame still has a presence in the area, and Pitt is almost always mentioned by New Jersey recruits. Two of Pennsylvania's top D-linemen squaring off
