Here are five teams from across the Midwest that are off to a good start for their 2013 classes. Michigan Wolverines
The Midwest isn't on the level of some SEC schools or Texas when it comes to locking down commitments very early in advance, so the Wolverines' two commitments for the Class of 2013 already leads all Midwest schools. Both commitments are excellent pickups though for Michigan, which will likely finish with the top 2012 class among Midwest schools, too. Warren (Mich.) De La Salle quarterback Shane Morris committed to the Wolverines back in May and is already being hailed as the pro-style quarterback of the future at Michigan. Following the Notre Dame win, the Wolverines picked up their second commitment when Dymonte Thomas, who will be one of the top prospects in Ohio next year, chose Michigan minutes after watching the drama unfold along the 50-yard line.Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Many were worried if Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly would have to do some damage control with his recruiting class following the Irish's 0-2 start. Well, not only did the Irish beat Michigan State, they got two commitments -- one for the 2012 class and a big one, literally, for the 2013 class. Midland (Mich.) offensive tackle Steve Elmer, who stands 6-foot-6 and is a Snack Pack shy of 300 pounds, committed to Kelly and the Irish before the win against Michigan State. Elmer loves the Irish, so it would take one major meltdown this year and next for Elmer to change his mind. Ohio State Buckeyes
I can hear it now: "The Buckeyes? But they have no commitments! They don't even know who their coach is going to be!" While true, that will hurt the Buckeyes more this year than next. If interim coach Luke Fickell is retained, 2013 recruits are familiar with the coach. If he's let go, then Ohio State will conduct a national search and the new coach will have more than a year to acquaint himself with 2013 prospects. And it appears Ohio and the Midwest will have some top talent in 2013. Trotwood-Madison cornerback Cam Burrows is a heavy Ohio State lean. Pickerington North linebacker Jake Butt is a die-hard Buckeyes fan. And for the rest of Ohio football players, an Ohio State offer will always cause some serious consideration.
