Reynoldsburg junior
Mykel Traylor-Bennett is a big play waiting to happen. Whether it's as a receiver or returner, he is expected to score at least one long touchdown every weekend.Logan (Ohio) was able to contain Traylor-Bennett on the outside as a receiver, keeping him to just three catches for 47 yards. So Traylor-Bennett made his presence felt on punts, taking one back 48 yards for a touchdown after having a previous score on a return nullified because of a holding call. He took another punt back to the 5-yard line.A week ago, he caught a 37-yard touchdown pass just seconds before the end of the first half. And in the season opener, Traylor-Bennett caught two long touchdowns and nearly had a third but stepped out inside the 5-yard line. In that game, Reynoldsburg's game plan was to just throw it up to Traylor-Bennett and let the 6-foot-3, 200-pound recruit either out run or out jump the opposing defensive backs. He did exactly that and finished with more than 200 receiving yards."(Quarterback) Jordan Aekins knows I run a 4.5 (40-yard dash) and there's no corner who can stop me if they're playing man-to-man," Traylor-Bennett said. "I'll get past him, so just put it where he needs to be."Receiver is an entirely new position to Traylor-Bennett, too. His first two years at Reynoldsburg he was a running back but grew out of the position.Traylor-Bennett burst onto the recruiting scene this summer when camping at Ohio State, where he spent a lot of time with Buckeyes receivers coach Stan Drayton. "I still have stuff to work on like beating the press, which I'm pretty good at now," Traylor-Bennett said."(Ohio State's staff) saw my soft hands, and I was young. I was only a (rising) junior there and competing with top-notch players that were (rising) seniors and supposed to be known."Following the camp, Drayton called Traylor-Bennett and a few other receivers into his office. Drayton mostly talked about what to expect during the recruiting process and stay on top of the academic side of high school. He also gave Traylor-Bennett some one-on-one advice."He told me I'm young and he sees a lot of talent in me and to keep working hard and stay in contact with him," Traylor-Bennett said.He said he's most interested in the Buckeyes, Cincinnati, Georgia, LSU and Oregon but knows it will be tough to get noticed by SEC schools.
