Less than two weeks ago, Pittsburgh Allderdice three-star defensive tackle
Tyrique Jarrett was talking about visiting West Virginia prior to his first high school game of the season.Well, that first game was Friday, but instead of visiting West Virginia in the days leading up to the opener, Jarrett instead decided to commit to Pittsburgh."I just felt Pitt always stayed on me and always stayed in my head," Jarrett said Saturday. "I'm comfortable with [Pitt]. It's like home because my family can come see me play, and I wanted to be in a good comfort zone."Jarrett planned on taking his recruitment into the winter and wasn't sure if choosing the hometown school would be a good decision two weeks ago. Jarrett mentioned a desire to get out of his native Pittsburgh and go to an out-of-state school. After sitting down with his family and thinking about it, though, he realized Pitt would give him the same opportunity to see different areas of the country when traveling for road games."I thought about it, and it wouldn't matter if I stayed because I'm going to be able to travel and regardless and be able to see different things," Jarrett said. "And once you're on campus it's a whole different world."Akron, Cincinnati, Connecticut and Temple also offered Jarrett. Cincinnati and Connecticut were up there with Pitt, but Jarrett never visited their campuses. He also got the feeling neither was all that interested in him to begin with."I never got to see Cincinnati and UConn, so I've been calling [the coaching staffs] trying to see them," Jarrett said. "They took so long to reply back, so I figured they might not really be that interested."Pitt was always calling me. There was so much love."Jarrett will attend the Panthers' opener against Buffalo Saturday night (7 p.m., ESPN3) and will get an up-close look of the new 3-4 defensive scheme he will be playing in under new coach Todd Graham. At Pitt, Jarrett will play nose tackle, a position he's played a little bit at Allderdice, so he doesn't believe there will be much of an adjustment period. There is a chance Jarrett will still take a couple official visits. He says he will discuss that with his high school coaches."I'll have to talk to my coaches and see what they say," Jarrett says. "I don't think I would, but if my coaches say I should then probably would just to check some other schools out."
