Four-star running back William Mahone (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) will no longer be using one of his official visits on Penn State the weekend of its game against preseason No. 2 Alabama. As odd as it sounds, though, that is good news for the Nittany Lions.A scheduling conflict was going to keep Mahone from making it to Penn State's campus the Friday before the game. As a result, Mahone, rated No. 14 among running backs, will still travel to Penn State on Saturday for the game and count it as an unofficial visit, and then will set up an official visit to Penn State at a later date, which he has not yet decided on. So Mahone will be visiting Penn State twice this fall.He has already unofficially visited Penn State on three occasions. Also playing in the Lions' favor is the fact that Mahone keeps in daily contact with a pair of Penn State commitments, West Roxbury (Mass.) Catholic Memorial teammates Armani Reeves and Camren Williams. Mahone says that does give Penn State a "little edge." "We talk almost every day," Mahone says. "It'd be nice to suit up alongside those guys."However, Mahone still contends his top four schools -- Penn State, Pitt, Michigan State and Notre Dame -- are all on equal footing at this point.Mahone wanted to end his recruitment before the start of his senior campaign, but he now says it will come sometime during the season.Notre Dame will receive an official visit the weekend of its Sept. 17 game against Michigan State. Mahone said he wasn't even considering Notre Dame until he visited a few months ago.No other official visits have been set.
