Five-star prospect
Noah Spence (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt), ranked No. 4 in the ESPNU150, unofficially visited Penn State's campus on Friday, and the trip "couldn't have gone any better," according to his father, Greg Spence."Penn State is a school we have a lot of admiration for, respect for," Greg said. The first time the two visited together, much of the discussion with the staff was about academics. This time, they got a more in-depth look and were able to check out practice and a defensive linemen meeting with assistant coach Larry Johnson, Noah's lead recruiter."The defensive meeting was a great experience because we got to see Coach Johnson teaching and going over the little details," Greg said.Known as one of the best recruiters in the country, Johnson does nearly all of the Nittany Lioms' recruiting along the Mid-Atlantic region, especially when it comes to defensive linemen. Greg and Noah have a built a great relationship with Johnson to the point where, if Noah chooses to stay near home and pick Penn State, Greg is comfortable handing his son over to Johnson."I told Coach Johnson that as a father I tried to instill a lot of values and good character traits," Greg said. "You want to feel as a parent that when you hand your son off to someone for the next level in life you know you put them in the hands of the kind of man who has that same set of values. I couldn't ask for a better coach or man to pass my along my son to."Noah, an Under Armour All-American, recently trimmed his list to seven schools but still has decided where to take his five official visits. Bishop McDevitt's home games are all played on Saturday mornings, so the Spences will use the four Friday road games on the schedule as well as December and January for official visits.Greg said Penn State will in all likelihood receive one of those visits. The remaining schools on Noah's list are Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, Notre Dame, USC and NC State, where his father was a middle linebacker has been taking Noah to since he was 10 years old. Noah has also unofficially visited Maryland, Pitt, Rutgers and UNC.Noah will not make his decision until the Under Armour All-America Game, but Greg said it will come down to which school Noah is most comfortable at and where the players are most like him -- humble and hard working, Greg said."I asked him, 'What if football was out of the equation?' and he relayed to me, 'You go to a school first and foremost.'"That's what's going to have the greatest impact."
