Russell Wilson: Wife Ciara's pregnancy 'a blessing'

RENTON, Wash. -- Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson announced earlier this week on social media that his wife Ciara is pregnant.

On Thursday, he shared his thoughts on becoming a father.

"It’s obviously an exciting thing, obviously for me and C, it’s exciting," Wilson said. "It’s a blessing. That’s for sure. And to have a child is an amazing, probably the biggest miracle there is in the world, so I’m excited about that.

"I was telling Tater [quarterbacks coach Carl Smith] and some other people, if I can just be half the dad my dad was to me, I’m doing something pretty good. So I just think constantly loving and constantly being there. I am a stepdad too, so it’s the same thing there. You just love unconditionally, love at all costs. And that’s the best thing about it."

Wilson is a stepdad to Ciara's 2-year-old son.

He was asked which teammates he'll lean on for advice on being a dad.

"Oh man, there’s a lot of guys," Wilson said. "Guys like Cliff Avril, Michael Bennett, you really look up to those guys. They’re such good parents. There’s so many different guys. Earl [Thomas], Richard Sherman, there’s a lot of guys."

Asked what advice he'll give to Wilson, Bennett said, "I'll tell him always let his wife think that she's right, and just always try to do as much as you can with your kids every day. Put everything to the side for them and just enjoy them when you can because they grow so fast."
