Will Chargers kick the tires on Jared Odrick?

Good morning.

As ESPN NFL Nation Jaguars reporter Mike DiRocco reported, the Jacksonville Jaguars released defensive lineman Jared Odrick on Monday.

In March 2015, Odrick signed five-year contract with the Jaguars worth $42.5 million, with $22.5 million guaranteed. He played in 22 games but missed the final 10 games in 2016 with elbow and shoulder injuries.

According to DiRocco, Odrick was scheduled to earn a $2 million roster bonus and have $3.5 million of his $6.5 million salary in 2017 guaranteed if he had been on the Jaguars' roster March 13.

Odrick, 29, has 170 tackles, 23 sacks, five forced fumbles and 15 batted passes in seven NFL seasons.

My take: Now that Odrick has been released, he could make sense for the Chargers as depth behind Joey Bosa at the big defensive end position in new defensive coordinator Gus Bradley’s scheme, lining up on the strong side of the formation. Odrick would not break the bank and would give Bradley someone familiar with his scheme and philosophy.

Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune writes about former Chargers center Nick Hardwick being inducted into San Diego’s Breitbard Hall of Fame this week

My take: It’s a cool and deserving honor for Hardwick, who remains involved in the San Diego community.

Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com lists Green Bay Packers pending free-agent guard T.J. Lang as a possible fit with the Chargers.

My take: GM Tom Telesco will be looking to revamp the offensive line during the offseason, and Lang could make sense for the Chargers.

Matt Claassen of Pro Football Focus ranks Melvin Ingram as the best edge defender set to hit free agency in March.

My take: The Chargers have until March 1 to decide whether to designate Ingram as the team’s franchise player. Ingram fits as a LEO defensive end in Bradley’s 4-3 scheme, and the Chargers should find a way to retain him.
