Andrew Ness (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College) is arguably one of the most underrated prospects in the Midwest. The 6-foot-4, 295-pound center is a two-time all-state selection that was overlooked by BCS level programs. Ness eventually gave Ball State his verbal commitment, but backed out of that commitment when the Cardinals fired Stan Parish. Andrew said last night that he'll play his college football for another MAC program. "I'm going to sign with Northern Illinois next week," Ness said. "I had a previous relationship with coach [Dave] Doeren while he was at Wisconsin. Once coach Doeren was hired, he offered me a scholarship. Since there was a coaching change at Ball State, I wanted to check out all my options. I visited Northern Illinois and felt very comfortable with the situation at NIU. I was impressed with Coach Doeren and the new staff and I'm happy to say I'm a Huskie."Crow still waitingA 2012 prospect from the Sunshine State that several Big Ten schools have on their recruiting board is QB Gray Crow (Clearwater, Fla./Countryside). The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder is receiving hand-written mail from Michigan, Purdue, Iowa and several others. "I'm still looking for my first scholarship offer," Crow said. "I'm just getting a lot of mail, some hand-written stuff and a lot of schools asking me to attend junior days and camps. The only junior day that I've scheduled so far is Florida. The schools that I like the most right now are Florida, UNC, Alabama, LSU and Duke." Crow will be a three year starter in 2011. He threw for 1,600 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior. Two sticking out to RashadLinebacker Shakeel Rashad (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) is only a junior, but several schools have already offered the 6-2, 220-pounder a scholarship. "North Carolina, South Carolina, Wake Forest, Central Florida, Maryland, Boston College, Duke and Louisville have all offered," Rashad said. "I've had some schools tell me they are recruiting me as a defensive end but most are saying linebacker and that's the position I prefer to play in college."Right now, Rashad has two schools that stick out -- North Carolina and South Carolina.Conlon picks Northern IllinoisNorthern Illinois was waiting on the decisions of two very important offensive line targets and ended up coming away with the verbal commitment of Aidan Conlon (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor). He was an unknown before the season, but a strong senior season earned him a half dozen offers. Conlon took trips to Western Michigan and Indiana State before making his decision. "I'm going to sign with Northern Illinois," said the 6-4, 285-pounder. "In the end I was looking at Northern (Illinois), Western Michigan and Kent State. I felt that after talking to coach [Dave] Doeren that Northern Illinois was the best fit for me. I'll take my official visit there this weekend."The Huskies missed on Chicago offensive tackle Tim Gorski who said he'll be a Hilltopper next year. "I'm going to sign with Western Kentucky," said 6-7, 250-pounder. "I sat down with my mom last weekend after my Northern Illinois visit and we decided to sort things out. It came down to Western Kentucky, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan. I just felt more comfortable on my Western Kentucky visit with the coaches and the players."
