Defensive end Theiren Cockran (Homestead, Fla./Homestead) had an official visit with Northern Illinois University this past weekend and came away impressed. "I had a great time at NIU," said the 6-foot-6, 210-pounder. "I really liked the new coach (Dave Doeren) and the rest of the coaches answered all my questions. I was offered a scholarship on my visit and I will be making my decision as to which school I'll be signing with right around signing day. I'll sit down with my parents to decide which school is the best for me. I've already visited Marshall and Western Michigan and liked those schools as well."Reed enjoys Indiana visitSimeon High School in Chicago is known for its basketball program, but the football team is making a lot of noise sending prospects to the FBS level the past three seasons. Three more Wolverines will sign with FBS programs on signing day, including cornerback Demarius Reed. The 5-10, 165-pounder visited Indiana this past weekend. "I liked Indiana a lot but I didn't commit," Reed said. "I'm going to make my decision at a press conference at our school on Jan. 28th. I've visited Ball State and Eastern Michigan as well. I'll pick between the three schools I visited."Awini narrowing things downAthlete Jaleel Awini (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview) made a trip to Bloomington this past weekend for an official visit with Indiana. "I thought my trip went well," Awini said. "There's been a lot of change for the good at Indiana. From the coaching staff to the facilities, there are a lot of great things happening. I didn't commit. I'm weighing my options right now. I'm still looking at Vanderbilt (which he visits Jan. 28), Indiana, Air Force and Colorado State and a few other programs. I should have a clearer picture of where I'm going to play college football after next week. Vanderbilt hasn't offered yet."Awini rushed for 1,179 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior and also threw for 1,461 yards and 25 touchdowns. Schlachter commits to Ball StateOffensive lineman Jalen Schlachter (Corunna, Mich./Corunna) took an official visit to Ball State this past weekend. "My visit went well," said the 6-6, 290-pounder. "They (Ball State) offered me and after talking about it with my family, I've decided to give them my verbal commitment. I had originally committed to Indiana but was told by the new staff that they were going in a different direction. I'm really excited about the opportunity to play for coach (Pete) Lembo and the rest of the coaches at Ball State."Sutton hoping for Nebraska offerDefensive end David Sutton (Lincoln, Neb./Southeast) was on an official visit to Nebraska this past weekend and he's hoping he won't have to go very far to play his college football. "I had a great time on my official visit," said the 6-4, 245-pounder. "Obviously I live in Lincoln and not that far from campus. I'd love to play my college football for the Huskers. I don't have a scholarship offer yet but the coaches told me that something could open up if the targets they have right now commit to other schools. It's been a dream of mine to play for Nebraska so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I also visited Ohio University a few weeks ago and that was a good visit also. Coach [Frank] Solich used to be at Nebraska and Ohio is a school with a nice campus and good academics. I'm going to make a decision around signing day." Sutton had 105 tackles and 12 sacks as a senior.
