If you strictly look at scholarship offers, you can't argue the fact that wide receiver
Jordan Westerkamp (Lombard, Ill./Montini) is one of the elite junior prospects in Illinois. Northwestern, Indiana, Illinois and Bowling Green were the first schools to offer a scholarship and now another Big Ten school threw its hat in the ring for the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder. "Iowa just offered me a scholarship," Westerkamp said. "Coach (Kirk) Ferentz and my recruiting coach (Lester Erb) were at my school Wednesday. Coach Ferentz told me that they really liked my highlight DVD and were impressed with me at their junior day. Michigan State was in our school earlier in the week and Minnesota is coming in Thursday."
Jones sticking with SpartyMichigan State commit LB
Taiwan Jones (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) confirmed his pledge to the Spartans on his official visit last weekend."My Michigan State official visit was awesome," said the 6-2, 205-pound linebacker. "I had a chance to bond with a bunch of my new teammates while on campus. I had a great conversation with coach (Mark) Dantonio. He expects me to come in and compete for playing time next year and he's going to challenge me each and every day. I spent a lot of time with my position coach (Mike Tressel) as well. My mom was very pleased with the coaching staff at Michigan State and the academics so I'm 100 percent set to sign with MSU on signing day."
Church drawing interestBrother Rice High School in Birmingham, Mich., is a perennial prep football powerhouse. Warriors head coach Al Fracassa has sent dozens of football players to the FBS level and that will continue next season as running back
Devin Church (5-9, 185 pounds) is being pursued by several schools. "Everything is going really well," said Church. "I'm getting ready to hit some junior days at Northwestern, Central Michigan and Western Michigan. I'll probably stay close to home for the junior days and visit more schools in the spring and the summer. I'm getting tons of mail right now and the schools that I like the most right now and will consider visiting later this year are Northwestern, Illinois, Iowa, Central Michigan, Missouri, Western Michigan, Cincinnati, West Virginia and Michigan State."
Gorski's decision on the horizonTight end
Tim Gorski (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) is making the rounds on official visits and says he could pick a school very soon. "I went to Toledo this past weekend," said the 6-7, 250-pounder. "The visit went really well but I didn't commit. I liked the coaches at Toledo and there really weren't any negatives to the visit but I didn't give them a commitment. I stopped by Western Michigan on the way home from Toledo to check that out and I've already been to Western Kentucky on an official visit. I'm visiting Northern Illinois (Jan. 21) this weekend and I'll know where I'm going after that. I really can't say which way I'm leaning. I like something different about each school. Hopefully after my visit this weekend, the picture will clear up and I can make a decision." Gorski says he's being recruited as an offensive lineman.
