Bernard Taylor (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) gave Indiana his verbal commitment before his senior season but when Bill Lynch was fired, the 6-2, 280-pound defensive tackle decided to open up his recruitment. "I really didn't know what I wanted to do," Taylor said. "I didn't know much about the new coach (Kevin Wilson) or the coach who was recruiting me (Mark Hagen). I took my official visit to Indiana last weekend and after meeting coach Wilson and coach Hagen, I recommitted to Indiana. I'm 100 percent solid to Indiana now. Coach Wilson is a really cool guy. He hired a bunch of great coaches and hopefully we can get to the business of winning football games. I'm looking forward to next fall."
Caesar impressed with SpartansJuwan Caesar (Miami, Fla./Coral Park) took a trip to the Midwest this past weekend and made an official visit to Michigan State. The 6-4, 210-pound wide receiver has several scholarship offers. "The trip went really well," Caesar said. "Coach [Mike] Dantonio is a great guy and a great coach. I liked the school and the football facilities. I can see myself at Michigan State but I decided not to commit. I have already visited Illinois. I have West Virginia (Jan. 21) coming up this weekend and I'm going to finish up at Central Florida (Jan. 28). I probably will make a decision on signing day or close to signing day. I can say everything was top notch at Michigan State but I'd like to make a few more trips to have something to compare it with."
Strobel still waitingTom Strobel (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) is one of the top junior prospects in the Buckeye State. The 6-foot-6, 240-pound defensive end will be a three-year varsity starter in 2011."I have scholarship offers from Pittsburgh, Purdue, Cincinnati and Northwestern," Strobel said. "It's so early in the process for me that I'm just taking everything in stride. I'm not even going to any junior days or at least I'm not planning on doing any junior days because I play basketball. As far as favorites are concerned, I really haven't thought about it. It's just so early in the process and I haven't seen anything. Hopefully this summer I'll get out and visit some schools."
Boykin to Kent StateTristin Boykin (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) had an outstanding senior season and college recruiters took notice. Boykin made an official visit to a MAC school this past weekend and he appears to have found a home. "I took a trip to Kent State," said Boykin, a 6-foot, 185-pound running back. "My visit went really well and I got a good feeling from the players and the new coaching staff. Everybody made me feel at home and a part of the family. I'm ready to help turn things around at Kent State with the new coaches, so I gave them my verbal commitment. There are some other schools that have asked me to come look at their school but I'm solid with Kent State and I don't plan on taking any other visits."
Kubvoruno drawing more interestTakudzwa Kubvoruno (Gull Lake, Mich./Gull Lake) is a prospect that many coaches didn't know about as a junior but a super senior season had college coaches requesting senior film. Kubvoruno is being recruited as an athlete. "Some coaches are telling me wide receiver and others are saying cornerback," Kubvoruno said. "I think most schools thought I was too small to play at the (FBS) level. I'm 5-10, 170-pounds. What I do have is speed. I've been clocked at 4.4 in the 40-yard dash." Kubvoruno was supposed to make an official visit to Central Michigan last weekend but that didn't happen. "Coach (Kyle) Nystrom said that they thought they had an offer for me but it didn't look like it was going to happen so they cancelled the visit. I'm looking at other MAC schools right now and I might be on an official visit this weekend."
