Jaleel Johnson (Westchester, Ill./St. Joseph's) is among the top junior prospects in Illinois. The 6-foot-2, 275-pound defensive tackle was a standout at the NUC Ultimate 100 combine that was held in Columbus, Ind. Johnson was also an all-area selection in 2010. "I haven't received an offer yet," said Johnson. "I'm getting a lot of mail and my coach is telling me that a lot of schools have called expressing interest. Arizona, Colorado, Purdue, Wisconsin and Northwestern all send mail every week. I don't have a favorites yet. I plan on going down to San Antonio next month for the U.S. Army All-American Combine."Illinois likes DuboseWhen college recruiters visit Chicago for the spring evaluation period, one of their stops will be Hubbard High School on the city's southwest side. Linebacker Mikhail Dubose is drawing the attention of several schools. "Illinois is probably the most interested right now," said Dubose. "I don't have any offers but Illinois, Northwestern, Northern Illinois, Purdue, Arizona and Akron have shown the most interest." The 6-3, 225-pounder had 89 tackles and eight sacks in 2010 and says he'll be plenty busy come spring and summer. "So far I'm planning on one-day camps at Illinois, Ohio State, Arizona and Purdue," Dubose said. "I went to a lot of games this year including three games at Illinois because I have the most interest in them. Arizona and Northwestern are the other two programs that I probably like the most right now."West still waitingJunior QB Ryan West (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) could be the most sought after prospect for the Panthers since Alex Magee (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and Joey Goodspeed (Notre Dame). The 6-3, 185-pound gunslinger threw 2,471 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2010. He's also averaging just over 20 points per game on the hardwood. "Just a lot of mail right now," West said. "I don't have an offer. Illinois, Northwestern, Iowa and Missouri seem to be the most interested right now. Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin and Purdue are all sending mail on a regular basis. I'm just taking it all in right now. I'm concentrating on basketball. I'll probably hit some camps and some combines during the summer and see what happens from there."Quick hitters• Junior OL Ryan Ward (New Lenox, Ill./Providence Catholic) is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his brother, Pat Ward (Northwestern), and play FBS football. The 6-6, 270-pounder already holds an offer from Northwestern. • OG Chris Bryant (Chicago, Ill./Simeon) says despite the rumors he has things narrowed down to Arizona and Michigan, he's still looking at Illinois, Stanford and now Ohio State has entered the picture.• WR Hayden Daniels (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) is a grayshirt commit to Illinois, but Cal is now in the picture. Cal assistant coach Jeff Genyk recruited Daniel's brother, Owen Daniels, while he was at Northwestern. Cal says its looking for a potential H-back or tight end and the Golden Bears like what they see in the 6-4, 190-pounder.• OT Graham Glasgow (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) was a basketball player at this time last year, but the 6-7, 295-pounder decided to give football his undivided attention in 2010 and it seems to have paid off. Marmion was the Illinois 6A runner-up this year and the exposure Glasgow received from that state championship run has been overwhelming. "There's a lot of FBS programs calling now," Glasgow said. "I'm in the process now of setting up visits and there are still a lot of schools asking for senior film."
