Dean Lowry (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) helped lead his team to a 6A state championship in 2010. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound junior defensive end is starting to hear from college coaches. "I don't have any scholarship offers yet," Lowry said. "Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern and Western Michigan have all shown interest. I'd say that Illinois and Northwestern have shown the most interest thus far. I get regular hand-written mail from both of those schools just about every week."Lowry had 61 tackles, 12 tackles-for-loss and 10 sacks in 2010. He was a coach's all-state selection.
Avaloy names favorites One thing college recruiters need to know is that before Dan Starkey took the head coaching job at Winnetka (Ill.) New Trier, he was the head coach at Lombard (Ill.) Glenbard South. While at Glenbard South, he was raving about a sophomore offensive lineman by the name of Kyle Avaloy. Starkey said that Avaloy had the potential to be the best lineman he has coached. "I just been getting a lot of mail right now," said the 6-4, 300-pounder. "Out of all the schools contacting me right now, I'd say that Northwestern, Nebraska, Iowa, Cincinnati, Akron, Illinois and Indiana State would be my favorites."
Tanner drawing interestOne of the best prep football programs in the Midwest is Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Crusaders always seem to have FBS-level prospects on the field and it will be no different next year when college recruiters will be out to take a look at defensive end
Johnny Tanner. "No scholarship offers yet," said Tanner. "Pittsburgh, Ohio State, Kentucky, Akron, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Michigan and Notre Dame have shown the most interest," the 6-4, 225-pounder said. "I was leading our conference in sacks until I was moved to tight end after the fifth week of the season. I want to hit some camps and combines but I also play baseball so I'll have to check out my schedule."
Daniel taking visitsWord around the recruiting campfire was that
Armonze Daniel (Avon, Ind./Avon) wasn't going to sign a letter of intent in February and that he had plans of attending a junior college with his brother and former Georgia defensive lineman Montez Robinson in Arizona. Daniel put those rumors to bed. "I'm going to sign a letter of intent," said the 6-4, 225-pound linebacker. "I'm going to be taking my official visits in January and I'll make a decision on the one I feel most comfortable at. I have Illinois set for Jan. 21 and I'm still looking at Purdue, Indiana and Minnesota."
